Green Home Building Statement

Green Building Construction Standards

We at Walmer Enterprises are strongly committed to preserving our environment. We are concerned about the present and future implications of pollution and environmental irresponsibility for our planet. We are striving to preserve our natural resources while still providing a high quality, beautiful product to our clients. So, we have “gone green” with nearly all the materials we use to manufacture our cabinetry.

Our cabinetry is manufactured with plywood created with non-toxic technology which uses a soy based adhesive. We also use hardwoods from sustainable forests and water-based finishes with low to no VOC’s. Additionally, we obtain these materials within a 500 miles radius of our factory in order to minimize our ecological footprint.

We are very excited to offer our clients an earth-friendly product and to contribute to keeping our planet green.

Walmer Cabinetry Promotes Healthy Indoor Air Quality

With Walmer cabinetry in the homes you build, you can breathe easy! Our manufacturing process is free from harmful chemicals, which helps maintain indoor air quality and the health of the occupants.

Walmer cabinetry and millwork is manufactured using the following products:

  • The hardwood plywood we use is from Columbia Forest Products PureBond. Rather than using urea-formaldehyde in the adhesive, PureBond uses a soy-based adhesive which is non-toxic and formaldehyde-free. There is no compromise to product quality and durability which homebuilders expect from us. (www.columbiaforestproducts.com)
  • The finishing stains and coatings are from Fuhr Industrial Products and are all water-based, with low to zero VOCs below EPA standards. They are also formaldehyde-free. (www.fuhrindustrial.com).

In the Washington, D.C. area, more and more houses are being built in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council LEED for Homes program. The intent of the LEED guidelines with respect to cabinetry according to the LEED for Homes Reference Guide is as follows:

“Increase demand for environmentally preferable products and products or building components that are extracted, processed and manufactured with in the region.”

Our cabinetry complies with LEED standards under MR 2.2 as follows:

  • Environmentally Preferable Products: Our cabinets have no added urea formaldhyde resins. FSC-certified tropical wood available.
  • Emissions specifications: Our finishes meet Green Seal Standards and are below the LEED Applicable Standard for VOC content.
  • Local Sourcing: Our Alexandria manufacturing facility is within 500 miles of homes being built. Walmer cabinetry and millwork enhance the beauty, value and safety of any home you build. And it’s a feature you can proudly offer to your clients as a responsible homebuilder concerned about their health and comfort.
  • Our Commitment: We have always been proud of the cabinetry we produce. Providing beautiful designs, high quality and excellent service are the bedrock principals upon which our reputation is based since our founding in 1972. Today we are even more proud because we are committed to doing our part to protect human health and the environment.
